THE UNITED STATES ARMY MERITORIOUS UNIT COMMENDATION

Following is the text of the citation.

The Meritorious Unit Commendation is awarded by direction of the Secretary of the Army to

THE AUSTRALIAN ARMY TRAINING TEAM, VIETNAM

with citation as follows:

The Australian Army Training Team, Vietnam distinguished itself by exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services from July 1962 to August 1969.  Throughout the foregoing period, the members of this valiant Team consistently manifested professional competency and the highest degree of dedication in their advisory efforts on behalf of a beleaguered nation - the Republic of Vietnam.  As an operational entity composed of individually selected volunteers, the Australian Army Training Team, Vietnam displayed unexcelled initiative, relentless perseverence, and undaunting courage in providing advice and assistance which enhanced the ability of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Vietnam to successfully engage and defeat the enemy on the battlefield.  In addition to furnishing technical knowledge with respect to complex tactical operations, this motivated organization offered its expertise to aid in the implementation of the Civil Operations and Revoultionary Development Support program.  Its accomplishments in this latter area were reflected most vividly in the remarkable progress achieved within the social and cultural sphere of life among the Vietnamese people.  Through its dynamic participation as a staunch member of the Free World Military Assistance Forces, the Australian Army Training Team, Vietnam contributed conspicuously to the development and maintenance of a stable and viable nation whicle operating in a hostile environement.  The Australian Army Training Team, Vietnam performed in consonance with the highest traditions of the military and has brought distinct credit to itself and the Commonwealth of Australia.

The certificate for the award of the citation was signed on behalf of the Secretary of the Army on 9 February 1970.

THE UNITED STATES ARMY MERITORIOUS UNIT COMMENDATION

Following is the text of the citation.

CITATION

                    UNITED STATES ARMY VIETNAM INDIVIDUAL TRAINING GROUP
                        (UITG)/FORCES ARMEE NATIONALE KHMER (FANK) TRAINING
                        COMMAND and ASSIGNED and ATTACHED units distinguished itself in
                        support of military operations in the Republic of Vietnam during the period from
                        24 February 1971 to 30 November 1972.
                        The members of this unit continually demonstrated extreme diligence, extraordinary
                        aggressiveness and consummate skill in the conduct of training operations to Allied
                        forces throughout the combat zone. From its conception the UNITED STATES
                        ARMY INDIVIDUAL TRAINING GROUT (UITG) FORCES ARMEE NATIONALE
                        KHMER (FANK) TRAINING COMMAND provided training to seventy-eight
                        Cambodian Battalions located at three sites.  In addition to the demanding efforts of
                        improving and upgrading two of the sites, one site, complete with training areas,
                        weapons ranges, billets, and other facilities, had to be built from the ground up.
                        When task with the requirement to organise, re-equip and train Vietnamese Armed
                        Forces which had been badly mauled during the Spring 1972 Offensive, members of
                        this unit formed a highly skilled Mobile Training Teams (MTT).  This MTT concept
                        and the implementation of this program has significantly increased the fighting
                        effectiveness and moral of over sixty Vietnamese Battalions.  Maintaining the highest
                        calibre of professionalism and superior demonstrated ability, members of this unit
                        successfully rendered the finest possible training.  The remarkable proficiency and
                        devotion to duty displayed by member of the UNITED STATES ARMY
                        INDIVIDUAL TRAINING GROUP (UITG) FORCES ARMEE NATIONALE
                        KHMER (FANK) TRAINING COMMAND are in keeping with the highest traditions
                        of the military services and reflect great credit upon themselves, their unit and the
                        Armed Forces of the United States.
